Angela Q - Makeup & Appearance Specialist

Once you have hydration (extremely important first step), you need to ensure you have an intact barrier function - I'll share a great example I have heard to explain this:

Imagine a sandwich wrapped in cling wrap... the point of having cling wrap is to keep the sandwich fresh/soft, if there is any damage to the cling wrap, what is going to happen to the sandwich? Dry patches? Mould/bacteria? discolouration? Its the same with your skin, your skin is your cling wrap, as soon as there is any damage to the skin - cuts, sun damage, toxins, dehydration, etc. your barrier function is impaired, which can lead to dryness/dry patches, bacterial infections, discolouration like pigmentation and redness, dull or uneven skin tone, rosacea, etc. Does that make sense?

So, to help repair your barrier function you need:

Vitamin A - Retinol

Retinol promotes an increase in the amount of substances that enhances the skins structural elements and has also been shown to stimulate collagen production - this creates an improved barrier and firmer skin. Because Vitamin can cause you to become photo sensitive (sensitive to the sun) its best used at night time & a sunscreen during the day, no matter the weather.

Vitamin B3 - Niacinamide

Niacinamide is an anti-oxidant that soothes inflammation while improving epidermal barrier function. It boosts collagen formation, smooths fine lines and wrinkles and is known to improve micro circulation in the skin.

If you have any damage to your gladwrap and would like more advice on what products or procedures that can help, please do not hesitate to contact me. I offer a free skin consult with any purchase. Book online here!
